Sonny and the Money

It was a lot of money that Sonny took from Cloyd's desk. Plus the money the money that Sonny already had there is really no reason to explain why he doesn't care about spending it. It's not like he worked for it. Yes he was nervous and had his guard up for a bit but since no one mentioned anything about it so far he feels like a man for doing it. What he will do now is still a mystery to me. I have two predictions. In another post I wrote about Sonny escaping. He would either escape with his mother or one of the two girls, Nica or Cindy. I have a feeling that now that he has this amount of money he will use it for that reason to escape. His mother said she is bored which is why she is out all the time. And Cindy now has told Sonny that she doesn't have any money either, she is broke and always alone. I believe Sonny is either going to use the money to get him and his mother out of The Flowers or he is going to give some money to Cindy to get herself out of her apartment and Sonny is going to leave either with her or without her.
If I was in Sonny's position I would leave money to Nica to help her out, and I would use the rest to leave the apartments. Silvia doesnt really take care of Sonny much so all I think I would do was leave her a note so she wouldn't try to stop me from leaving. My concern would be though is that once Cloyd noticed that the money was gone and now I Sonny was gone also he would automatically assume it was me who took the money. I think that me Sonny being gone would make Cloyd mad so he would take it out on Silvia since she is my mother. Maybe he would think that she had something to do with it.
Alot can be said about what sonny might do, but I have a strong feeling its going to be one of those two things. Escaping with his mother or escaping alone and leaving Cindy some money.

My Father always...

My father always uses a calm voice even when he is mad. There could be some type of arguement going on in my house and he always tries to find a way to solve everything without hurting someones feelings. I love that about him. I'm never afraid to talk to him. I know he will listen to what i have to say. And that matters to me alot.

Character Description

Sylvia, Sonny's mother seems to be a distant type of mother. Especially to Sonny. He has learned to basically raise himself without the guidence of her. Sylvia cares alot about the way she looks. She always wants to look her best for others. "It seemed to me she was wearing another new dress, and she was smelling washed and bath-oiled and lotioned and misted, and the high heels were glossier and redder thean her lipstick."(76 Gilb) Her mentality you could say is not very mature because she would fight alot with her dauughter. "My mom used to fight loud with my sister. She would get so she'd go after Ceci with belts or wooden hangers or whatever was near." (5 Gilb) Ceci left once she was old enough.                           
Through out the novel Sylvia seems to concern about Sonny when she needs something. She tries to make it seem like she is thinking about him and probably half of her is and the other is concerned about herself. Like when she told him about Cloyd and the painting of the sign not being finished. She wants Sonny to be happy living at the apartment with Cloyd but it doesnt even seem like she likes it very much either. Its all a show she has put on. A show for Sonny, Cloyd, and herself. "...and she was trying too hard to sound happy. Nobody'd believe her except her." (17 Gilb)
Sylvia is in and out of relationships. And qute frankly i wouldnt doubt it that she has maybe met someone else. Maybe thats we dont always know where she is at or where she is going. All we know is that she is there to make Cloyd dinner and look like a hot Mexican housewife. Who knows how long her and Sonny will last there with Cloyd. "Im bored" she said. (72 Gilb)

Week One My Mother Never...

My mother never made me feel like I could not come and tell her anything. At times she may have not been supportive of the decisions I made but she was always there for me when I would come back running for help when I didn't have anyone else to go to. She is a very strong woman. I have looked up to her since I was a child. I have been told that I have a lot of the same characteristics as her and all that isn't always a good thing. Why is that? Because when we argue both of us do not want to give in. We both feel that we have to prove our point and we wont stop until we do. This will lead to a silence treatment from both of us to each other. Not many would find this to be a healthy relationship but I understand her and thats what matters to me because I'm just like her and I understand myself. At the end of the day we can move on from what ever happened and be almost like sisters. Our relationship is that strong. No one could ever replace my mother, she is a unique woman. If you met her you would think the same. There is no one like her out there, for good reasons and bad reasons and I'm not afraid to put it out there like that because I am a chip off the old block. :)

Week One The Flowers

So far I like Sonny. I think Cloyd and his mother underestimate how smart he really is. With all the people he has been meeting at the apartment complex Sonny is getting alot more knowledge than a normal teenager would be getting. I'm not sure that Pink the guy that sells the used cars and Cindy the married girl that he has the hots for are good influences on Sonny. You can tell that he wants to keep his mom happy even though he truly has a gut feeling that his mom is not happy with Cloyd. I think that later in the book if things at the apartment complex start getting out of hand either at home with his mom and Cloyd or with any of the neighbors Sonny is going to bust out. Which is what he is waiting for to happen with his mom. He wants his mom to bust out of the apartment with him. Now that Cindy and Nica are in the picture though i think that he may want to help them out. Mostly Cindy since he has talked to her more and knows more about her and her situation. The stash of money that he has been saving from the houses he has gone into i believe is going to come in handy. I think he is going to use it eventually to leave with his mom and leave Cloyd or if that doesn't happen he is going to leave on his own. I'm really curious to find out how the relationship between Sonny and Cloyd plays out.

I am... 21 years old. My name is Patricia Rubio. For the first six years of my life I grew up in Mexico and from then to now I have lived in Morgan Hill. I'm the oldest of three. I've been at Gavilan since 2008. Hopefully next semester will be my last. My major is still undetermined. I love to be outdoors. Playing basketball and Dance are two of my favorite hobbies. I"m not a bookworm but i could read a couple books over and over again and never get tired of reading them. This semester for me I believe is going to be the hardest, but I have faith that if I stay on track and on top of my homework I will succeed.
